Humanities and The Arts

Are you the ‘creative type’ in your family? Do you find meaning through creating or interpreting non-tangible aspects of the human experience? You might be wondering what a career like that would look like. The Arts and Humanities Career Community include academic disciplines that study human culture, expression, context and achievement. They span a huge range of subject areas and enormous timeframes, examining the many different ways in which humans have sought to understand and express themselves throughout history.

Are you interested in obtaining a Graduate Degree? Here are a few tips to help make the process a little bit easier!
Do your research: Start by researching what degree would be best for your career trajectory. Connect with Alumni or additional friends/family members who may have the degree you are interested in and ask them about it! Look into any requirements including location, cost, testing required, deadlines, essays, and cost.
Get Organized: Create a spreadsheet or additional document detailing all of the schools that you are interested in applying to. Note the school name, the application deadline, any test scores you might need, essays, contact information, assistantships/TA positions, and cost (Note that graduate admissions application fees can not usually be waived and can cost between $0 – $150, depending on the school. Usually they fall in the $50 – $100 range per school).
Get Documents Reviewed: Before submitting any personal statement or essay answer, Career Connection recommends at least 2 pairs of eyes on each response. Your Career Catalyst, the Writing Center, Professors, and Supervisors can be great resources to utilize in order to make sure you answer the prompt to the best of your ability.\
