Denison Edge: Designing Effective Social Impact Workshop

Learn to spot real social impact, ask better questions, and design operations and programs that align values with action.Meaningful social impact is more than a mission statement or a one-day service project. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to distinguish real impact from performative efforts, see how values show up in budgets and programs, and identify practical ways to drive change from wherever they sit—whether in a student org, internship, or early career role.The Learning Outcomes include:- Distinguishing true social impact from general community engagement or marketing- Asking effective, compliant questions about social impact in interviews and workplaces- Understanding how P&L decisions, budgets, and program design can advance social goals- Applying a simple “mini playbook” to design or refine socially impactful initiatives- Exploring how social and affinity groups (e.g., ERGs/BRGs) in organizations can be leveraged to support social impact Instructor: Colin Page McGinnisColin Page McGinnis, CReC, is a strategist and operator who thinks in systems and relationships at the same time—a combination that centers people in the process, and gets to outcomes faster for it. At OH.io, he serves as connective tissue across leadership, revenue, operations, and external partners, bringing a behavioral and learning sciences lens to the problems most organizations treat as purely structural. A Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree for Social Impact, he has operated inside high-pressure environments where growth, talent, and execution collide. Colin holds a B.S. from The Ohio State University and an M.A. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He is a Certified Resilience Coach.
