Career Connection in Full Swing: Mid-Semester Highlights at OWU

As the semester reaches its midpoint, the Career Connection team has been busy helping students explore, prepare, and connect! From networking with alumni to discovering new career paths, our recent events have created exciting opportunities for growth and exploration. Highlights from this semester include the Career Community Fair and Career & Internship Fair, the Athletic Alumni Panel, the OWU Connection Conference: Launch Your Future, and Alumni Meet & Greet. Here’s a look at how OWU students are building their futures through these hands-on experiences.

Career Community Fair

The Career Community Fair brought students together in the HWCC Atrium to connect with their Career Catalysts, learn about OWU’s eight Career Communities, and enjoy Crumbl Cookies. The space was filled with great conversations, curiosity, and excitement as students explored how their interests connect to different career paths.

For many, it was a chance to discover new opportunities and feel more confident about their next steps. “It really helped me see where my interests fit,” one student shared. “Talking with the Career Catalysts made the idea of finding internships and career connections feel less overwhelming and a lot more exciting.” With a strong turnout and plenty of sweet moments, the Career Community Fair was more than just a meet-and-greet—it was a fun and meaningful step toward future possibilities.

Career & Internship Fair

The Career & Internship Fair brought together 95 employers and graduate/professional schools, offering students a wide range of opportunities to explore. Open to all majors and class years, this event provided a space for students to learn about full-time and part-time positions, internships, and post-graduate programs. From nonprofits to corporate organizations, students had the chance to network directly with representatives, ask questions, and gain insight into potential career paths. The fair served as a valuable step toward building connections and discovering next steps beyond OWU.

Athletic Alumni Panel

The Athletic Alumni Panel brought together former Battling Bishops from a variety of sports to share their experiences during and after their time at OWU. Panelists reflected on how their athletic journeys shaped their personal and professional growth, offering insight into the skills and lessons they carried beyond college athletics. Current student-athletes had the chance to hear advice on transitioning from competition to career, gaining valuable perspective on life after sports and the diverse paths alumni have taken.

OWU Connection Conference: Launch Your Future

The OWU Connection Conference: Launch Your Future offered students an engaging, hands-on opportunity to explore every step of the research, internships, and job process. Through interactive stations, participants learned how to identify and pursue opportunities, strengthen their resumes, and build meaningful connections with alumni and career communities. Open to students of all class years, the conference encouraged active participation and practical skill-building to support each student’s career and academic success.

Alumni Meet & Greet

The Alumni Meet & Greet brought together more than 30 of OWU’s 85+ Alumni Partners for an engaging virtual networking event. Held over Zoom, the session gave students the chance to connect directly with alumni who are eager to share their experiences, offer advice, and support students’ career journeys. Participants explored potential career paths, learned strategies for success, and gained insight into professional practices such as conducting formal interviews. The event emphasized the power of connection and the value of OWU’s strong alumni network.
